In 2015 Sebastian Vettel joined Ferrari after four World Championship titles with Red Bull. But somenone special wanted to guide the German F1-Wunderkind much earlier to the Scuderia : Michael Schumacher.
“Schumacher tried in every way to convince us to bring Vettel to Ferrari,” reveals ex-Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo in an interview with Sky Italia.
But despite Vettel’s victory in Monza in 2008, Ferrari thought it was too risky. “At that point, we found him too immature and preferred Fernando Alonso”, said di Montezemolo.
Vettel won four world titles in the following years, Ferrari zero. Di Montezemolo: “If you ignore certain aspects of his character, Fernando has celebrated great victories with us and only lost the title twice in the last race.”
