It is a small quake in the Formula 1 world! Sergio Perez confirms via Twitter that he will leave Racing Point at the end of the season. This clears the way for Sebastian Vettel at Aston Martin!

Perez writes: “Everything in life always has a beginning and an end, and after seven years together, my time with the team will end after this season. It hurts a bit because I bet on the team in very tough times; we managed to overcome obstacles and I am very proud to have saved the jobs of some of my team-mates”.

He continues: “I will always be grateful for the opportunity given to me by Vijay Mallya, who believed in me in 2014 and allowed me to continue my F1 career with Force India. I wish the current management team under the leadership of Lawrence Stroll all the best for the future, especially with regard to the upcoming Aston Martin project”.

In 2021, Racing Point will be renamed Aston Martin and will drive under a license from the British sports car manufacturer.

Perez is now without a cockpit: “I don’t have a plan B. My intention is to continue racing here, but that would depend on finding a project that would motivate me to continue to give my 100 percent on every lap.”

So it’s clear: Either the Mexican wasn’t able to raise the millions he had asked his sponsors for after all. Or Sebastian Vettel is simply more important to Aston Martin and its owner Lawrence Stroll. F1-Insider.com had reported that the Vettel deal with the English team had been shaky for a long time because Perez had asked his sponsors for more money.

The still Ferrari star and his press spokeswoman Britta Roeske cannot be reached at present. Anything but a change of the German to Aston Martin would be a surprise under these circumstances.
